Man to Man

Bishop DeRoo and Mr. Roche have set an example of what the Church must become if it is to fulfill the promise of Vatican II. Man to man, person to person, equal to equal, but with different functions as People of God. Each with different talents and charisms to contribute to the building up of the community of love. Instead of talking about communicating they do it and demonstrate its difficulties and its potentialities. In their honest and openness the DeRoo-Roche conversations provide a modem of communication that ought to be imitated on every level of the universal Church.

"It is a treat to read of a bishop who does not fear the press and of a journalist who is a bishop's friend. May their tribe increase. Until it does, let us pray that the civilized dialogue in this light-filled book will show the way for 'uptight' shepherds and frustrated newsmen who do not know that they are brothers.."
